100 European cities supported to experiment innovation for green, digital and inclusive transformations

Cities and urban areas are a decisive building block of the climate transition advocated by the European Union.

Therefore, the European Commission intends to conclude Climate City Contracts with 100 cities across Europe, facilitating climate neutrality, including initiatives in the energy, buildings, waste management and transport sectors. A dedicated platform has been set up to support this effort.

This initiative is financed by the “Cities Mission” with a €360 million budget within the Horizon Europe programme, throughout the period 2022-23. The funding will support research and innovation projects addressing clean mobility, energy efficiency and green urban planning with the objective of reaching climate neutrality by 2030.
