CEF Transport Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) second deadline
On 11 June 2025 the second (of three) deadline of the current CEF Transport Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) is set. Applications for project proposals are open.
The first deadline of the call has been closed on 24 September 2024.
The objective of AFIF is to support the deployment of alternative fuels supply infrastructure, contributing to decarbonising transport along the TEN-T network. In particular, publicly accessible electric recharging pools and hydrogen refuelling stations across the European Union’s main road, maritime, inland waterway and air transport corridors and hubs are supported. Funding is provided for:
-
high power electricity recharging stations
-
hydrogen refuelling stations
-
megawatt recharging stations for Heavy Duty Vehicles
-
electric charging in public bus depots is now eligible for funding
-
electricity and hydrogen supply at airports
-
electricity supply and ammonia and methanol bunkering facilities in ports
AFIF supports mature investment projects having received a financing approval letter from an Implementing Partner or from a public or private financial institution established in the EU.
The initial budget of the AFIF call has been 1 billion Euros (780 million Euro under the General envelope and 220 million Euro under the Cohesion envelope). Yet, these budgets will be adjusted according to the funding of successful project proposals of the first call deadline.
The third and last deadline of this AFIF call is 17 December 2025.
