€4.6 billion to boost net-zero technologies, electric vehicle battery cell manufacturing and renewable hydrogen under the Innovation Fund
On 3 December 2024 three calls for proposals under the Innovation Fund were opened to accelerate the deployment of innovative technologies in Europe. In total, the calls will make up to €4.6 billion available for industry and cleantech players located in the European Economic Area.
1. The Innovation Fund 2024 Call (IF24 Call) for net-zero technologies worth €2.4 billion supports decarbonisation projects of different scales, as well as projects focusing on the manufacturing of components for renewable energy, energy storage, heat pumps and hydrogen production. The application window will be open until 24 April 2025.
2. The Innovation Fund 2024 Battery call (IF24 Battery) offers €1 billion for projects that can produce innovative electric vehicles battery cells or deploy innovative manufacturing techniques, processes and technologies. The application window will be open until 24 April 2025.
3. The Innovation Fund 2024 Auction (IF24 Auction) aims to support projects for renewable hydrogen production regardless of the sector in which it will be consumed, with a dedicated budget of €1 billion; as well as hydrogen production in projects with off-takers in the maritime sector, with a dedicated budget of €200 million. Bids can be placed until 20 February 2025.
All three calls include new resilience criteria to boost European industry. The batteries call and hydrogen bank auction will also include specific resilience criteria to protect Europe against dependency on a single supplier.
The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and the European Commission’s Directorate General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) are organising the following two info sessions:
